LifeTag

some individuals who have a common inclination to "making the
world a better place". First known as the Lifeline Heritage
until three years ago, LifeTag is a non-profit-oriented, non-political,
non-religious and autonomous Non Governmental Organization (NGO).
Achievements
About
a decade of its existence, the Organization has achieved a lot,
some of which include;
-
In 1994/95, was in the NGOs coalition that fought against the
conversion to a mono-crop plantation, the buffers of the former
Okomu Wildlife Sanctuary (now Okomu National Park), Edo State,
Nigeria, reputed to be an international landmark,
- Collaborated
for three years with the former Environmental Education Unit
(EEU)-College of Education, Benin City [under the sponsorship
of the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Nigerian Conservation
Foundation (NCF)], to promote conservation awareness/education
in schools.
- Initiated
and spearheaded a preliminary Biodiversity Survey of the Ekpan
Rain Forest located in Uhunmwode Council in Edo State. The project
was being supported by NCF (National), the former Federal Environmental
Protection Agency (FEPA), Pro-Natura International and others.
- Has
been creating environmental awareness in Nigeria, using especially,
journalists and media practitioners. A good example is the annual
conservation awareness activity organized for journalists and
the public, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists(the
Edo State Council)and the Okomu National Park.
- Carried
out Ornithological Survey (1997) of Taraba State, which it discovered
as a destination/stop-over for seasonal migratory birds from
Finland and some European countries. LifeTag also discovered
the state as source/route of international smuggling in endangered
wildlife species such as the Chimpanzee.
-
It is a valuable facilitator of Environmental/Nature Education
project of the Ogba/Benin Nature Park and Zoo, Benin City.
- Currently,
it leads a number of local and foreign NGOs in the agitation
for the rehabilitation of victims of the year 2001 kerosene
explosion in Edo State, Nigeria, from the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Edo State Government.
